The team of the National ORCID Centre and National DOI Centre, which operate under the National Technical Library from 2023, summarizes the year 2023.
What has been achieved in 2023?
The National ORCID and DOI Centres were established on June 1.
The National ORCID Centre started with 18 member institutions, with 3 more institutions joining on August 1. By the end of 2023, the Centre has 21 member institutions: 18 universities, CESNET, the Czech National Science Foundation, and the National Technical Library. The Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic also joined on 1 January 2024.
At the end of the year, the National DOI Centre has 8 member institutions: 3 universities – Charles University, Masaryk University, the Czech Agricultural University, the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Institute of Biotechnology of the CAS, the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS in Prague, the Research and Breeding Institute of Fruit Growers Holovousy and the National Technical Library. CESNET also joined as of 1 January 2024.
There are now 18 integrations within the member institutions of the National ORCID Centre, of which 12 add information to ORCID profiles. Through the integrations, 5,525 profiles have been updated as of 1 January 2024.
National DOI Centre members registered 622 DOI identifiers for the full year 2023 (with the registration agency DataCite).
We provided in-depth onboarding for Centres’ members (National ORCID Centre – June 15, presentation; National DOI Centre – July 13, prezentation), a workshop on ORCID integrations (Nov. 1, prezentation and recording). We also trained librarians and R&D support staff from 5 universities on ORCID iD (75 people in total), and demonstrated the Affiliation Manager tool to librarians from MUNI (17 participants).
We have prepared promotional materials on ORCID iD for research and academic institutions in the Czech Republic.
We presented the services of the national centres on:
- 15 June at the National EOSC Tripartite Event and Czech Open Science Day,
- 5 October at the Vševěd conference,
- 16 October during Open Science Week,
- 1 November at the Bibliotheca Academica conference,
- 30 November at the conference Archives, Libraries, Museums in the Digital World.
What are we planning for this year?
On 11-13 June, we will be co-hosting PIDfest, an international conference on persistent identifiers, with the Australian Research Data Commons, to which you are cordially invited. More information about the conference can be found here: https://www.pidfest.org.
On Monday 29 January, we will be hosting a workshop on the Affiliation Manager tool for interested members of National ORCID Centre member institutions.
We will continue to offer training on ORCID iD for librarians and R&D support staff. (If you would be interested in training at your institution, please fill out this form.)
We will then hold an annual meeting of representatives from member institutions of both national centres in the fall. Exact dates will be announced in due course.
We wish you good luck in the new year and look forward to further cooperation,
the team of the National Centres
