ISSN in numbers

In 2025, the international ISSN network celebrated the 50th anniversary of its existence and surpassed the milestone of 2.5 million registered ISSN.

The international network of national ISSN centres, coordinated by the International ISSN Centre based in Paris, celebrated 50 years of operation last year. The aim of the network is to assign and manage the ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) identifier for printed and electronic newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, conference proceedings, monographic series, and other so-called continuing resources.

Each year, 50,000–70,000 new ISSN are added to the ISSN Register, and approximately 130,000 modifications and corrections are made, reflecting, for example, changes in titles, publishers, or publication formats of serial publications.

In 2025, the Czech National ISSN Centre registered a total of approximately 18,000 Czech ISSN, of which 3,600 belong to active, currently published periodicals. There were more than 15,000 records of periodicals published in the Czech language, placing Czech 21st among the languages represented in the international ISSN Register.
