DataCite API Changes

The DOI registration agency DataCite has announced a few planned changes to their APIs.

It is the deprecation of the DataCite version 1 REST API request endpoints (/works, /members, and/data-centers) and their replacement with version 2 equivalents (/dois, /providers, and/clients), which was already implemented this July. You can read more about the change at: https://support.datacite.org/docs/datacite-rest-api-legacy-endpoints-deprecation

In the second half of 2026, there will also be changes to the collection and processing of information about the mutual relationships among entities (specifically, the relations between objects, their authors, affiliations, and links to funders) within DataCite Event Data. You can learn more about the schedule and the impact of the changes on the functioning of the API at: https://support.datacite.org/docs/datacite-event-data-changes

In July 2027, the DataCite GraphQL API will be deprecated. https://support.datacite.org/docs/datacite-graphql-api-deprecation
