DataCite Open Hours 23 September 17:00 – Spotlight on Research Software

The DOI registration agency DataCite is organizing another Open Hours session this time on 23 September 2026 from 17:00, focusing on how DataCite members can support the preservation, accessibility, and recognition of research software.

The session, we will explore how registering DOIs for software helps ensure that it remains discoverable, citable, and accessible over time. We will hear from DataCite members about their experience with software DOIs. Ilia Nikiforov, Protocol Developer on the OpenKIM project, will present their efforts to ensure the long-term reproducibility of atomistic simulations. Gerhard Klimeck, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, will share their motivation for and approach to registering DOIs for software in their repository.
