National ORCID Centre by the Numbers

The National ORCID Centre has been operating at the National Library of Technology since June 2023. In less than three years, it has significantly expanded the use of ORCID iD across the Czech research landscape. As of April 2026, the Centre brings together 31 institutions with 25 active integrations into institutional systems. Nearly 20,000 researchers are connected to their institution’s system, and through these integrations, over 14,000 affiliations and more than 156,000 works have been added to ORCID profiles. The pace of growth is equally striking: between June 2023 and April 2026, the number of connected researchers doubled, the number of recorded affiliations grew more than threefold, and the number of works added via institutional integrations increased more than eightfold.

ORCID iD is gradually becoming a standard component of research activity reporting — according to data collected in 2025, approximately 62% of authors in the IS VaVaI system provided their ORCID iD, specifically 23,468 out of a total of 37,704.

These Czech developments reflect a broader global trend. According to the ORCID 2025 Annual Report, the international community now counts 1,492 member organisations in 192 countries and more than 10.6 million actively engaged researchers. A total of 7,189 external systems are connected to the ORCID registry — from publishers and funding agencies to institutional repositories. Both globally and in the Czech Republic, ORCID iD is cementing its role as a key tool for the unambiguous identification of researchers and the linking of their scholarly outputs.
