The DataCite Registration Agency is making metadata for digital objects that have been assigned a DOI identifier through the agency available through the DataCite Metadata Store, in line with its commitment to the POSI principles.
One of the ways the agency makes metadata publicly available is through a public data file. In late January 2026, the agency published, for the third time, a dataset containing metadata for the 108 million DOIs registered through DataCite by the end of 2025.
In 2025, the DataCite community registered more than 36 million new DOIs. DataCite members have also submitted updates for more than 23 million existing DOIs – encompassing metadata improvements that enhance the completeness and quality of DataCite metadata.

Monthly data file for DataCite members
DataCite is also going to be publishing similar metadata files on a monthly basis to improve the ability to continuously monitor the process of registering new DOIs and their updates. These monthly files are currently available to DataCite members. You can learn more about how to access them here: https://support.datacite.org/docs/datacite-monthly-data-file
