How researcher identifiers work together to help researchers, build a better picture of research, and streamline administrative tasks?
ORCID’s original purpose was to address the name ambiguity problem in scholarly research. In a world where researchers are rewarded based on their work, which is typically linked to them by their name, misattributions are common. ORCID is helping to solve this and many other challenges in the research ecosystem.
A new white paper by the MoreBrains Cooperative includes three brief case studies of how ORCID complements other types of researcher identifiers:
- a national identifier – Portuguese CIÊNCIA ID
- a disciplinary identifier – INSPIRE HEP (hosted by CERN)
- a proprietary identifier – ResearcherID (used in Web of Science).
Among other PID-related analyses, MoreBrains Cooperative authored a cost-benefit analysis of implementation of persistent identifiers in the Czech Republic in 2024.
